What they are
- ic-cmake adds the convenience functions we reach for on every build. A project pulls it in with one fetch script and an
include. - test-cmake is a unit test framework for CMake projects — tests for the build system itself, not only for the firmware it produces.
- utils collects the smaller utilities embedded projects keep needing.
- ic-macro-magic and ic-macros are header-only C libraries for code generation and the utility macros that go with it.
Each is fetched the same way: commit a short fetch script to your repository, include it in CMakeLists.txt, and the library comes in at a pinned version.
Why this matters on a project
Firmware gets tested only as well as the build system allows. Ours is set up so unit and integration tests run automatically from the first week, before there is hardware to run them on, which is what lets the firmware schedule stay separate from the hardware schedule.
Because the tooling is public, a client's team can read it, use it, and keep using it after we hand the project over. Nothing in the build depends on us still being there.
